Topic Brainstorm!

I think it would be really cool to do my project over women
in the bible! Like I mentioned in a previous post I’m a Christian but I don’t
have a very well developed understanding of the role women play in biblical
teachings. When I think women in the Bible I tend to think Bathsheba and Ruth,
two pretty different women, so I’d love to get the opportunity to get to study
them and others in depth! I learned so much already just reading some of the
older projects. I really enjoyed one of the examples I read from a Greek
Mythology project where they turned it into a TV show and wrote a script for
the episodes – I think that would be super cool to do with Women in the Bible!
I also loved the idea of doing a project on OU Ghost
stories! I am actually a Tour Guide here at OU and am getting trained to do
Ghost Tours this semester so that would be a really cool thing to get to
incorporate – maybe I could even do my project I the form of a tour! I could
script it like I was a tour guide showing people around some of the cool
haunted parts of Norman. Despite a lot of knowledge of OU in general, I don’t actually
know very much about Norman ghost stories (besides the whole dead girl in the
library story, which they’ve actually asked us to stop telling because it
freaks parents out) so it would be great to grow that knowledge! Another cool
idea could be making my project a sort of virtual camp fire and have someone
telling the ghost stories themselves!
Okay I should probably just come out and say it – I’m all
about girl power. I spend basically my entire life working with girls,
encouraging girls, being encouraged by girls and it’s something I’m super
passionate about – I’m even in some Women and Gender studies courses this
semester. I think it would be really interesting to do a project for mythology
that focused on the different types of myths featuring women in different
cultures. It would be really cool to research how those myths correlate with
those cultures views on women and even how those myths have continued to
influence women even now. For this topic I imagine a more serious premise –
although I have tossed around the idea of doing it as a sort of dating show
(think The Bachelor).
It is so crazy to me that almost every different culture has
a different creation story. It would be so cool to do a project that really
dove into different creation stories and examined the similarities between
them. After I saw some common threads I think it would be awesome to try my hand
at writing my own creation story in order to demonstrate some of the
commonalities. The only creation stories I really know are the Christian and
Greek Mythology ones – and even the Greek one is a little confusing to me. I
would be interesting to choose some stories from eastern regions and see what
similarities cultures that had no contact may have as well!
