Egyptian Mythology: Reading B

For reading B this week I read "The Tale of two brothers" which, I've got to tell you, had me a little bit shook. The story, in itself, is pretty confusing. Basically there's two brothers who live together with the oldest brothers wife. Because all women mythological women can't seem to help themselves from being adulterers, she decides to make a pass at the younger brother and her husband, in all his great wisdom, decides to kill him without asking any questions. Basic mythological story so far. But then the younger brother decides to separate his soul from his body (verdict is out on why he does this) and puts it into a tree. Hereafter he somehow gets a divine wife who he tells not to leave the house (which of course she does) who then, to make a long story short, tries to kill him and ends up giving birth to him instead.
The Tale of Two Brothers

My main opinion on this story (besides just general confusion as to what the heck is going on) is that once again we are getting no female characters to root for!! I know I sound like a broken record here but seriously?? The only women we get in this story are the elder brothers wife - who tries to sleep with the younger brother and then have him killed - and the "girl wife" of the younger brother - who sells him out for a chance to be with the Pharaoh. All I'm saying is that everyone should have "heroes" in their culture to look up to and this story is giving women nothing but scheming and sexuality.
